Privacy Policy

1. Who we are

Kettle Inc. operates the website try-kettle.com and the Kettle iOS app. If you have questions about this policy, contact us at legal@try-kettle.com.

2. The short version

Kettle keeps your health data on your iPhone. There are no accounts today, no Kettle servers storing your health data, no ads, and no third-party trackers or analytics.

This policy will be updated before any of that changes.

3. What we collect on this website

Nothing today: no analytics, no cookies.

When beta signups open, we will collect the email address you submit. We use it only to contact you about the beta, and we delete it on request.

4. What the app stores

The app records your workouts, recorded activities (including GPS routes), food and water logs, body metrics, and your profile. This is stored in the app's local database on your device. Kettle has no servers holding this data.

Deleting the app deletes this local data.

5. Apple Health (HealthKit)

All access to Apple Health is opt-in through iOS permission prompts. With your permission, Kettle reads your step count and water logged by other apps. It writes your workouts and GPS routes, walking/running and cycling distance, active energy, heart rate, food macros (protein, carbohydrates, fat, energy), and water.

We never use your Health data for advertising or marketing. We never sell it, share it with data brokers, or use it for data mining. Kettle does not store your Health data in iCloud.

Health data written to Apple Health is managed from the Health app.

6. Device permissions and why

• Location: GPS route tracking during recorded activities, optional background gym-arrival detection, and local weather for hydration goals.
• Bluetooth: connecting a heart-rate monitor.
• Camera: scanning barcodes and nutrition labels, and taking food photos.
• Motion & Fitness: cadence, steps, elevation.
• Notifications: rest-timer and gym-arrival reminders.

Each permission is optional and controlled in iOS Settings.

7. When data leaves your device

In the following cases, data is sent off your device:

• (a) Barcode lookups. When you scan a barcode, the barcode digits are sent to Open Food Facts to look up nutrition info.
• (b) AI photo recognition. If you enable the AI photo feature (off by default, requiring your explicit consent), a downscaled food photo plus your recent and favorite food names are sent to OpenRouter for recognition. For this feature, our requests are configured to use zero-data-retention routing only.
• (c) Weather. Your coarse location is sent to Apple Weather to set hydration goals.
• (d) Map tiles. Map tiles for route and gym maps are fetched from OpenFreeMap, OpenTopoMap, and Esri. As with any map service, tile requests reveal the map area you're viewing (via tile coordinates) and ordinary network metadata such as your IP address.

Each of these providers is governed by its own privacy policy.

8. Retention and deletion

• Local data: delete the app.
• Apple Health entries: manage them in the Health app.
• Beta-list email: unsubscribe or request deletion at legal@try-kettle.com.

9. Security

Data at rest is protected by iOS device encryption. The transfers described above use HTTPS.

10. Children

Kettle is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their data.

11. International visitors

The site and app are operated from the United States. The third-party services described above may process requests in other countries.

12. Changes to this policy

We will update this policy before shipping features that change how your data is handled — including accounts or cloud sync. When we do, we will update the effective date above.
